Flora Colmar from Target Ovarian Cancer, visited the Williamwood branch of Anderson Maguire Funeral Directors recently to pick up a cheque for £1,312.44.  The funds were raised through the branch hosting a coffee and cake morning for the local community.

Marjory Campbell, Funeral Arranger at the Wlliamwood branch of Anderson Maguire, said:

“One of my colleagues recently had a cancer scare and I know of many people who have lost loved ones to cancer in recent years.  We were delighted with the support we received from family, friends and strangers who wanted to come along and donate to this event. It was really awful weather that day so we didn’t expect so many people to turn up but they did and everyone enjoyed a really sociable event.  We would also like to extend our thanks to all the local businesses who donated and who gave prizes for the raffle.”

Over £600 was raised on the day and Dom Maguire, Chairman of Anderson Maguire, pledged to double the amount raised to give a grand total of £1,312.44

The sooner ovarian cancer is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat. Survival can be over 90% for women diagnosed with early stage ovarian cancer. That means that seven out of ten women will survive for five or more years.
